I can scarcely believe it! We're leaving Friday morning around 0900h. I think it's a bit of a late start for such a long day but I've been overruled. It doesn't happen often (my being overruled) but I suspect it will be a frequent occurrence on this adventure ;-)
The part from Motorcycle Larry arrived a week ago so the Feej, aka La Dolce Vita, went to MacLean Sports yesterday to have the Zumo installed. I'll take her for a little run today to see if the gps actually works on the move.
It's time for yet another 'todo' list I think. I have my netbook running so I can blog and get email. That thing is SMALL! Have to make turkey soup and spaghetti sauce for the freezer - although I'm sure John will have abundant dinner invitations. Have to get a new supply of Gracy's pills (will use gps to get to the vet clinic in Oromocto), put in a month's supply of kitty litter, get bills paid or prepaid as required, have lunch / coffee with friends :). It would be nice to get my window boxes planted before I go but ..... perhaps my sis will be sympathetic and do them for me while I'm gone. Yesterday I picked up an Icebreaker shirt at Radical Edge. Allegedly, it doesn't absorb odour so it may be worn something crazy like 100 days straight. That makes packing a whole lot more simple as I have to live out of 2 sidecases for 3+ weeks! I'll use the topcase but it will take only a few lightweight items and it won't be full.
There are a number of people interested in this trip and who have indicated they'll be following my blog. Most are excited, some are worried (and one - who shall remain nameless - can't sleep when she starts thinking about it. Stop worrying C!) . I'm going to be serious here for a moment.....I've had all the well wishes and the "ride safely"s and I've had more than one person remind me of the risk inherent in this mode of travel. I absolutely know such observations are made out of genuine concern and caring. Trust me, I do know the risk -- I think of it every time I get on my bike. I'm not a particularly superstitious or religious person. But I do appreciate the power of positive thinking and I really need for you all to be thinking positive thoughts while we're away ! ps: it was negative self-talk that made me drop my bike while practising slow-speed maneuvers in a parking lot.
I work this evening and then I'm off until July 2nd. GIDDY UP!
Join Mark Colwell and me as we make quick tracks to North Carolina to ride some of the best made-for-riding roads anywhere, including the famous Tail of the Dragon at Deal's Gap, North Carolina. October 3, 2009 - October 16, 2009. Let the games begin ....
